What is Clinical Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a technique whereby an individual is guided to settle their mind into a deep state of relaxation so that s/he can explore the root cause of their problem e.g a phobia about flying. This therapeutic technique uses NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) and a solution focused approach. The basis of NLP is that each of our minds create its own unique internal mental maps of their world and this is based on how our minds perceive and process information through our five senses from the world around them. NLP helps individuals to understand how they organise their thinking, feelings, language and behaviour to produce the results they want in their lives whether for personal development or business success.
Please note: Regression therapy is a technique that is used within the treatment session to facilitate the sub-conscious mind to work on resolving significant past events that may be interfering with a person’s present mental and emotional wellness. This technique will only be used on individuals with sound mental health who are confident that a review of past events will not adversely impact their emotional or mental health. This will be assessed before a client engaging in a therapeutic therapy and advised whether regression therapy is a suitable intervention.

What happens in a treatment?
Your treatment will occur in two parts, an initial information gathering consultation and a treatment session approximately one week later.
At your initial consultation you will will beasked about your current problem/s, past medical history, family history, significant life events and to clarify your goals for treatment so you can work together in facilitating your goal. Your first appointment will last up to 1hr.
Consultations can be held in person (subject to availability) in a warm and welcoming private room or via zoom sessions in the UK or internationally that are encrypted for confidentiality. English is the spoken language of the therapist. Hypnotherapy works just as well using Zoom as it does in person, in fact, many people prefer this method. Whether online or in person every care will be taken to ensure you are mentally, emotionally, and physically comfortable throughout the treatment.
During the treatment session a range of techniques will be used for you to explore, uncover and help you understand the root cause of the issues you are experiencing. You will remain in control and often be fully aware, but your conscious mind will be free to drift off, allowing your subconscious mind to awaken and become open to your positive suggestions. Throughout the whole session you will be completely aware of what is happening, and you will be conversing with the therapist. At any time to you decide to come out of hypnosis you can very easily.
After treatment clients share that they felt intrigued, relaxed, safe and looked after throughout the session. If exploring sensitive issues or emotionally painful issues, please be reassured that you are in control throughout the session and can stop the session anytime. In hypnosis you are only reviewing a situation and NOT reliving an experience.
Following your treatment session you will receive a recording specifically reinforcing the changes you wish to achieve. You will need to, and be responsible for, listening to the recording daily for 21 days. A follow-up session will occur 7-10days after treatment and 3 weeks after treatment to review progress.
Frequently asked questions
What regulations govern you?
All therapists are bound by a strict code of ethics, insurance, GDPR and ICO regulations and you can be assured that all information disclosed between a patient and therapist is treated in the strictest confidence.
What if I can’t be hypnotised?
Hypnotic trance is a natural state of mind. Trance happens throughout a day without realising it e.g. driving in your car and arriving at your destination without remembering much about the journey. Some clients go into trance more easily and deeper than others. How quickly or deeply you go into trance is not related to the success of your treatment.
When will I start to see changes?
There are 3 types of change from therapy - every person is different:
- Immediate: You feel a massive shift right away - immediate changes in your physiology, thoughts and behaviours right in the session.
- Incremental: You see consistent shifts every day, or over time.
- Retroactive: You don’t see the shifts right away and then one day you suddenly look back and see all the things that are different in your life.
How many sessions will I need?
The mind will prioritise the main problem it needs to address. Sometimes if there are several related problems, by the mind addressing the main problem the others are may be dealt with at the same time.
One treatment package generally addresses one problem. If after the 21 day period an underlying deeper problem presents itself, then another treatment package would need to be sought.
Less complex issues can be dealt with in 1 treatment sessions. More complex issues will require more sessions dependent on the complexity of issues.
How will I feel afterwards?
Clients coming out of hypnosis feel relaxed and perhaps slightly drowsy for the first few minutes. Many clients come out of trance with big smiles on their faces and feelings of excitement or empowerment, because they realize that something significant has happened. Clients may experience additional insights and revelations in the days and weeks following their hypnotherapy session.
What if I already know what the reasons behind my issue?
In hypnotherapeutic trance the mind may present the root cause in a completely new way that enables you to change the meaning, your beliefs and perception about the problem. Many clients find they go back to scenes that are totally different than what they expected.
Can I get stuck in hypnosis?
No, that is a common misconception. You have complete control throughout the session. You can talk, move your body, get a tissue, even get up and go to the bathroom.
If our Zoom call gets disconnected you may drift into sleep if you’re really relaxed, but eventually you’ll notice that you’re not hearing my voice and open your eyes.
